“Bring your lawn chair, expected to be a sell out”!

The 7th Annual Wythe Raceway- FASTRAK PRO LATE MODEL NATIONALS take place this coming weekend Saturday Sept 4th and Sunday Sept 5th. Saturday’s event will pay $2000 to win, with Sunday’s spectacular paying a whopping $5000 to win. PLUS the driver with the highest point total of the two days will receive the “Super Bowl Type Championship Ring”!

This is no ordinary ring as the 2009 Champion Shanon Buckingham will attest too. This is one more beautiful ring with the drivers name actually ‘tooled’ into the side. The ring will also have logos of both the Wythe Raceway and the FASTRAK Racing Series along with 2010 CHAMPION. As stated by Buckingham as the 2009 FASTRAK Series National Banquet, “man this is really much nicer than I ever thought it would be”! Buckingham will have his ring on display at the Sunday event for all teams and fans to see. “We wanted to really make this event special” said Fred Brown of Wythe. “The ring is something no driver can receive anywhere in the country except for the PRO Late Model Nationals”.

The event format has changed a bit this year in light of the economy. “Fred and I have worked on the format all year” said Stan Lester of FASTRAK. “After listening to the suggestions of many teams we decided to do the race with a new “twist”. This way everyone has two chances versus the past $10,000 to win one race show. They have two chances to make a race plus the teams that support both nights are the teams that will also have the chance to win the ring and be named 2010 PRO LATE MODEL NATIONAL CHAMPION. It is a possibility this would give us three different winners instead the normal one, of the past $10,000 to win show”. The past winners of the event are posted on a large sign as you enter the speedway grounds.

This race has always been a fan favorite with fireworks on Saturday night, then a much larger fireworks show on Sunday night plus a driver autograph session in the grandstands. The race format will be completely different on Sunday night featuring double file restarts and a pit stop on the front straight at the half way point of the 75 lap main event. There will be $3 coupons available to fans for both nights action at local area merchants. There will also be a drawing both nights for the Grand Marshall to throw the green flag for the feature event along with drawings for a ride in the “Official pace Truck” for the 3 wide salute to fans as the fireworks are going off in the background.

Look for some rising stars to be at the event with John King having just completed his first ever NASCAR truck series event at Bristol Motor Speedway finishing 15th in what most would say is the toughest track on the circuit. King will be at Wythe both nights in an attempt to become the 2010 PRO Late Model Champion.

Old Mans Garage SE Touring Championship points are close as David Smith has a very small 3 point margin over Royce Bray. The champion gets $10,000 for the points championship so that battle is sure to be fierce among them. Both races will count toward the points chase, so one will no doubt come out the favorite from the weekend’s events with only one race to go.

There’s a lot of other things going on in the area that weekend as the infamous “World’s largest Flea Market” is going on all weekend right down the interstate. It’s fun for all the family all weekend long. Racing and shopping. How much better could it possibly be?

Please make your motel reservations asap as the flea market takes a lot of the area hotel rooms. The Sleep Inn in Wytheville is the ‘host hotel’ featuring a $70 rate. You must use the code “FAST” to receive the special rate.
