Dirt Late Models “tightest” points battle!
It has to be the single closest points battle in the country, doesn't it? I
mean look, they are tied AGAIN! That's right. David Smith and Royce Bray
have battled all year long with the Old Mans Garage FASTRAK SE Touring point
battle. As we speak they are tied again. Both with 306 points.
"Man what a point battle" said Darrell Weaver, President of Old Mans Garage.
When we signed up as the Title Partner (sponsor) of the series SE tour, we
had no idea how good this was going to be. We have been to a lot of races
this year and the teams, the series and the Officials have really treated us
exceptionally well. Then to top it all of a points battle like this! How
much better could it be"?
No doubt this is at least one of, if not the most anticipated battle in the
country for dirt late models. "I have had calls from both of them this week"
said Stan Lester of FASTRAK. "These two guys are watching each other like a
hawk. I can assure you that neither does anything that the other one doesn't
know about. The best of all is both of these guys are close friends. I do
remember some instances though early in the year I won't mention here, but
what do you think will happen if it comes down to the last lap of the last
race"?
The $10,000 point money for first place is nothing to sneeze about but its
all about bragging rights now. Especially when its between friends. Who will
have the bragging rights until this time next year?
Bray and Smith have battled back forth in points all year but lately, its
almost baffeling. Bray led going into Rolling Thunder. Had a bad night and
they left tied. The next night Smith was leading by 4 after the Wythe
Raceway event. Then came Eldora. After Eldora Smith was only leading by 2
points. After Charlotte this past weekend, once again they are all tied up.
FANS TO NEED TO WATCH THIS ONE!
Here we go with Toccoa Speedway next weekend, then Wythe Raceway over Labor
Day with a two separate race weekend giving both drivers a opportunity to
make up some ground or in this case, give it back up. Then comes the GRAND
FINALE at the Lavonia Speedway which continues to be in question in
September. Which will be the very last Old Mans Garage FASTRAK Tour event of
the year? Which driver will prevail? Both are great drivers with tons of
experience. They both started FASTRAK the same year. They both have super
late model experience. One is from SC, one from GA. Maybe it will come down
to a battle of the states. I'm not sure about any of the above but I am
certain of one thing, NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A TRUE POINTS CHAMPIONSHIP!
