Brandon Umberger wins Inaugural NOS Energy Drink FASTRAK Triple Crown Championship after Compton’s Disqualification
Rural Retreat, Va. (May 30, 2010) – Kenny Compton Jr. won both of the NOS Energy Drink FASTRAK Triple Crown features when the Old Man’s Garage FASTRAK Southeast Series visited Wythe Raceway Saturday night. Following the second race, Compton was crownedthe inaugural Triple Crown Champion in victory lane. But his reign as the champion didn’t last long.
Compton refused to allow his GM 604 crate engine to be torn down for technical inspection, leading to both of his victories being disqualified.
Brandon Umberger finished second in the first feature and third in the second race. The disqualifications made him the winner of the first race and second in the other. The two finishes earned him the NOS Energy Drink FASTRAK Triple Crown Championship.
Jensen Ford, who finished second in the second race, was awarded the second feature win after Compton was disqualified. With the win and his third-place finish in the first feature, Ford was the runner-up in the Triple Crown Championship. Clinton Cook recorded official finishes of fourth and fifth to earn third place in the Triple Crown.
Umberger and Ford each earned $1,500 for their victories. The event drew a total of 47 Late Models. The Old Man’s Garage FASTRAK Southeast Series will return action June 19 at Toccoa (Ga.) Speedway.
